Update: Varthur Road Widening Project - Meeting with KRDCL Officials

Dear Varthur Road Residents and Volunteers, We are pleased to report on a productive meeting held today by our volunteer team with officials from the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL), including Managing Director Smt. Susheelamma N, K.A.S., the Special Land Acquisition Officer (SLAO), and the Superintendent Engineer. The primary purpose of the visit was to submit a petition requesting the expedited and scientific completion of the Varthur Road widening work (SH-35) and to discuss the severe hardships faced by commuters and residents. The officials received our petition and engaged in a detailed, fruitful discussion, acknowledging the severity of the situation. 🚧 Project Progress and Land Acquisition Insights
  1. The officials provided clarity on the project's status and current challenges:
  2. Land Acquisition Phases: LA is structured in three phases. Phase 1 uses TDR (handled by GBA), and awards for Phase 2 & 3 are nearly completed.
  3. LA Challenges: The SLAO noted that the process is slowed down by issues such as unclear land titles and limited documents from landowners.
  4. Construction Focus: Once drains are complete and land is acquired, KRDCL will prioritize building service roads on both sides to facilitate smoother vehicular movement, followed by the bridge work ASAP.
Gunjur Road Solution: Due to acquisition hurdles, KRDCL will install an underground pipe drain and commence road building on the available land. 🗓️ Management Focus, Transparency, and Timeline We received firm assurances regarding the management's commitment and transparency:
  1. Top Priority: Officials have affirmed that the Varthur Road widening project is their top priority, and they are confident the pace of work will now increase.
  2. Immediate Repair Work: The MD held a meeting with SLAO and K-SHIP officials yesterday to expedite existing road repair work, which is expected to start soon.
  3. Transparency and Dashboard Update: We specifically requested the MD to ensure the online project portfolio dashboard is updated with real-time progress. The MD acknowledged this need and committed to rolling out a circular within the department to enforce regular updates.
Completion Timeline: The officially quoted target for project completion remains 2027.
🌳 Environment and Road Condition Concerns
We strongly raised the issue of high AQI due to dust from the poor road condition.
  1. Dust and Work Pace: The Superintendent Engineer noted that the contractor requires a long, contiguous stretch of available land to start full-scale road work efficiently.
  2. Tree Plantation: KRDCL stated their current focus cannot deviate from completing the road widening and drains. They advised that tree planting on available land adjacent to the drains must be managed by the GBA, Forest Department, and resident volunteers
âś… Conclusion and Call to Action
  1. The meeting was highly constructive. We were able to clearly articulate our apathy, and the officials listened carefully, acknowledged the situation, and sounded confident about accelerating the work. The commitment to increase transparency via the project dashboard is a significant step forward
  2. A huge thank you to all the dedicated volunteers who participated in this effort! This action demonstrates the power of community advocacy. We must keep up the momentum and remain actively involved in monitoring this progress.
  3. We encourage more and more people to join us and work collaboratively for our community to ensure the timely and quality completion of this crucial infrastructure project.

3.5 Hours of Waiting, Zero Accountability: The Reality of Hosa Road Residents

Today, the residents of Hosa Road, South Bengaluru, gathered near the Kempegowda Statue in good faith, as requested by MLA M. Krishnappa’s team.
Over 350 citizens joined online and 50+ appeared in person, waiting patiently for over 3.5 hours to submit critical grievances regarding the ill-planned Hosa Road, dangerous craters, and never-ending traffic snarls.
Unfortunately, the MLA never showed up.
Mithilesh Kumar, representing the frustrated citizens, expressed deep disappointment: "Ignoring citizens who have waited hours just to be heard is against the democratic spirit of India. We expect @BJP4Karnataka to treat voters with dignity."
The disappointment has only fueled our resolve. The next plan of action is clear: We will mobilize 500+ residents to march directly to the MLA’s residence.
We thank every citizen for their patience. We remain united until our voices are heard.

Technology as a Force Multiplier: Inside Bengaluru’s Command Centre

In a city as dynamic as ours, traditional policing needs a digital edge. According to the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru (@CPBlr), the force is now leveraging advanced technology to ensure constant vigilance.

Mithilesh Kumar, Founder of Civic Opposition of India, highlighted the significance of this shift during a recent #CommandCentreVisit. "It is reassuring to see @BlrCityPolice using technology as a force multiplier," he noted. "With constant surveillance through strategically placed CCTV cameras, the city now has digital 'eyes and ears' monitoring crucial locations in real-time."
This integration of manpower and high-tech monitoring is a crucial step toward a safer #NammaBengaluru.
