Phase I Complete! 200+ New Trees for a Greener Bengaluru 🌳✅

We are proud to announce the successful completion of the first phase of our plantation drive today! Over 200 fruit-bearing saplings—including Jackfruit, Jamun, and Banyan—now have a new home in our lake buffer zones.

Mithilesh Kumar, who rallied the community for this cause, expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this possible: "It’s not just about planting trees; it’s about planting hope for the future. Seeing so many citizens turn up today was truly inspiring."

A massive thank you to the Karnataka Forest Department (@aranya_kfd) for their invaluable support, and to @JManjunathIAS and @captsanthoshkc for their guidance and leadership.

Most importantly, thank you to every single citizen who spent their Sunday morning with soil on their hands and a smile on their face. On to Phase II! 🚀

Massive Citizen-Led Tree Plantation Drive Revives Bengaluru's Lake Buffer Zones

Posted on: April 25, 2022 Yesterday, on April 25, 2022, East and South Bengaluru witnessed one of the largest citizen-driven tree plantation initiatives in recent times – a massive drive focused on planting fruit-bearing species in the buffer zones of our precious lakes. Organized in collaboration with the Citizens Movement East Bengaluru, the event saw enthusiastic participation under the leadership of Captain Santhosh Kumar (@captsanthoshkc) and the Karnataka Forest Department's Aranya team, with valuable guidance from IAS officer J Manjunath (@JManjunathIAS). The highlight was transforming lake buffer areas into thriving community forests. Hundreds of volunteers came together to plant thousands of saplings of fruit-bearing trees, which will not only enhance biodiversity but also provide sustainable food sources for local wildlife and communities in the years to come. Key sites included the buffer zones around Singena Agrahara Lake and several others in the region, areas that have long needed such ecological restoration. This initiative is a powerful reminder of what grassroots efforts can achieve in combating urban encroachment on our water bodies. Bengaluru's lakes have faced immense pressure from rapid development, but events like this give hope for recharge of groundwater, improved air quality, and the creation of green lungs in our concrete jungle. Kudos to all the volunteers, organizers, and supporters who braved the heat to make this happen! Let's continue building more such community forests to #SaveEarth and #SaveLakes. (Video footage from the event captures the energy and scale of the drive – truly inspiring!) If you're in Bengaluru and want to join similar efforts, reach out to local citizen groups or follow updates from Civic Opposition of India. 🌳💧
