Urgent Alert: Railway Land Encroachment Underway at Silk Board Sericulture Station, Kodathi, Bengaluru

Bengaluru's public land continues to face systematic takeover, and this time it's railway property adjacent to the Silk Board Sericulture Station Farm in Kodathi that's under threat.A recent on-ground video investigation reveals clear signs of deliberate encroachment by real estate interests, reportedly operating with local support. The footage documents a disturbing step-by-step pattern used to illegally occupy valuable government land:

  • Large-scale dumping of municipal garbage and household waste to degrade the site and discourage oversight.
  • Piling up of construction debris, broken bricks, concrete chunks, and soil mounds to artificially raise the ground level.
  • Progressive soil filling and leveling operations that slowly convert open land into plots appearing ready for future construction.

These tactics are not random — they form a well-known playbook in Bengaluru: first degrade and occupy, then fortify structures, and eventually drag the matter into court where delays (with India's staggering 53+ million pending cases) often allow the status quo to prevail permanently. The affected area belongs to Indian Railways — public land meant for infrastructure, expansion, or public use — not private real estate development. Once buildings rise or compound walls appear, reclamation becomes exponentially harder and more expensive.

Civic Opposition of India has escalated this matter by directly bringing it to the attention of:

  • Hon'ble Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
  • Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru
  • Local MPs and Ministers including P. C. Mohan, D. K. Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah, Aravind Limbavali

The official RailwaySeva handle has already acknowledged the complaint and forwarded it to the concerned Divisional Railway Manager for necessary action.Time is critical. Swift physical demarcation, fencing, and eviction of dumped material are needed before boundary walls, temporary sheds, or "existing structures" claims solidify. Bengaluru cannot afford to lose any more public land to encroachment mafias. We call on the Railways Ministry, Karnataka Government, and local administration to act immediately and transparently. Public land belongs to the people — not to land grabbers.Save our railways land. Save Bengaluru's future.

Anekal Is Not on the Moon: Citizens Demand Basic Roads and Drainage

Public Protest Highlights Deep Infrastructure Crisis in Anekal Taluk Residents of Anekal staged a peaceful protest today, marching up to the Anekal Tahsildar Office to demand safe roads and proper drainage infrastructure. The protest was a response to years of neglect, during which road conditions across Anekal Taluk have deteriorated to dangerous levels. Despite prior intimation, neither the Tahsildar nor any responsible government officer was present at the office to receive the citizens or address their grievances. This absence further intensified public frustration and reinforced the perception of administrative apathy.
Roads Filled With Potholes, Drainage Missing or Nonfunctional Almost all major roads in Anekal Taluk are riddled with potholes, making daily commuting unsafe for pedestrians, two-wheelers, school children, and senior citizens. The situation worsens after every rainfall due to inadequate or poorly designed drainage systems, which lead to waterlogging and rapid road damage. Citizens are not demanding luxury infrastructure. They are asking for basic, motorable roads with functional drainage—a minimum expectation in an urbanizing region like Anekal. Massive Public Participation Reflects Growing Anger More than 1,500 residents witnessed and supported the protest, reflecting the scale of public dissatisfaction. The turnout clearly shows that this is not an isolated complaint but a collective civic demand cutting across communities and residential layouts.
Appeal to Government and Elected Representatives We urge the Government of Karnataka, the local administration, and elected representatives—including the Anekal MLA and officials responsible for urban development and civic infrastructure—to treat this issue with urgency. Anekal is a fast-growing region contributing significantly to Bengaluru’s economy. Continued neglect of basic infrastructure undermines public safety, economic activity, and trust in governance. Conclusion: Basic Infrastructure Is a Right, Not a Favour Citizens should not have to protest on broken roads to be heard. Anekal is not on the Moon. It deserves the same standards of roads, drainage, and accountability that any urban area in Bengaluru receives. The government must act—now. #Bengaluru #Anekal #BadRoads #BrandBengaluru

It Wasn’t a Protest. It Was a Walk for Dignity.

While the government stays in "whataboutery mode," the reality on the ground remains unchanged. This Saturday, citizens of Bengaluru once again took to the streets—not in defiance of the law, but in desperation for basic infrastructure.
As protests are banned in the city, many couldn't officially join. So, as Civic Opposition of India) described it, this wasn't a protest; it was simply a "walk on non-existent roads."
The public anger is palpable. It is hard to imagine that in a global tech hub like Bengaluru, we are forced to fight for the most fundamental right: a paved road.
Civic Opposition of India warns that the sentiment is shifting from frustration to action: #NoRoadNoTax.
We appeal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar to stop the deflection and start the paving.

High Taxes, Broken Roads, and Silenced Voices: The Bengaluru Techie’s Reality

We pay the highest taxes, yet our roads crumble within 15 days. When we try to protest, the police stop us. When we raise our voices, the government brands it as "blackmail." Civic Opposition of India, asks the question on every resident's mind:
"Why is life so difficult for techies in Bengaluru? What went wrong?"
The frustration is no longer just about traffic; it is about a complete systemic failure. As Mithilesh points out, we must ask the uncomfortable question: "Has the system finally collapsed under the weight of 60% commission corruption?" It is time for answers, not intimidation.

The Cycle of Repair and Despair: Is Bengaluru Broken Beyond Repair?

It is tragic to witness the sheer helplessness of honest taxpayers in this city. We pay our dues, yet we are met with zero accountability and what feels like open loot of public funds.
Civic Opposition of India, points out the uncomfortable reality of our infrastructure:
"Even if BBMP repairs a road today, it won’t last 3 months. Why? Because they are built substandard, far below the budgeted quality."
This isn't just about potholes; it's about a systemic failure where quality control is non-existent. We are paying first-class taxes for third-class infrastructure.

The Bengaluru Techie's Weekend: Recover or Protest?

It is a sobering reality for thousands of professionals in our city: Work 10-12 hours a day, endure 4-5 hours of traffic, and then spend weekends on the streets protesting for basic infrastructure.

Today, the citizens of Gattahalli and Chikkanayakanahalli are protesting against substandard roads that have made commuting a daily hazard.

Mithilesh Kumar, Founder of Civic Opposition of India, questions the sustainability of this model: "How did we reach this point where tax-paying citizens have to fight for the mere existence of a road? Is this the #BrandBengaluru we want to project to the world?"

We appeal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the state administration to look beyond the headlines and address the ground reality. Our city deserves better than broken roads and lost hours.

🚨 Protest for Basics: Is the System Failing?

Residents of Chandapura, Anekal are on the streets today, not for luxury, but for basic roads. When citizens have to protest just to get a motorable path, we know the system is broken.

Mithilesh Kumar, Founder of Civic Opposition of India, weighs in on the crisis: "It is tragic that in a tech hub like Bengaluru, essentials require agitation. Perhaps this is the cost of prioritizing short-term 'freebies' over long-term infrastructure. We voted for free, now we pay the price with broken roads."

It's time to demand development, not just handouts.

When Survival Outweighs Bans: Citizens Protest for Basic Rights

In Bengaluru, protests might be restricted, but the desperation of citizens cannot be silenced. The residents of Chambenahalli, Sarjapur area have been forced to take to the streets—not out of choice, but out of necessity.

Mithilesh Kumar, Founder of Civic Opposition of India, highlighted the grim reality: "Citizens are forced to come out on the road for 'no roads'. When the infrastructure collapses completely, people have no option but to demand accountability."

The protest is directed against MLA Shivanna of Anekal, whose constituency has seen prolonged neglect. We are calling upon Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to look beyond the bans and see the ground reality.

When tax-paying citizens are denied motorable roads, protest becomes a duty.

Doddamara Road Nightmare Persists – Potholes, Blockages, and Unfulfilled Promises in "Brand Bengaluru

Yesterday, August 27, 2023, the grim reality of Doddamara Road struck again during a ground visit by one of our volunteers. Walking from near the Ambedkar statue toward Notre Dame Academy and further along the stretch, the conditions remain unchanged and deeply troubling: deep, hazardous potholes that turn the road into a treacherous path, narrow sections barely allowing safe passage, and complete absence of proper drainage despite years of repeated complaints from residents.Just two days earlier, on August 25, 2023, a joint inspection took place involving officials from the Public Works Department, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Shantipura Gram Panchayat, police, and traffic police personnel. The inspection was coordinated through the Office of the Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Representatives from our group were present, and the authorities committed to immediate remedial actions within the next 15 days, including:
  • Relaying and restoring the road surface from the Ambedkar statue to Notre Dame Academy (to be handled by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board).
  • Filling and repairing all major potholes with concrete and tar from Notre Dame Academy to Dinne Circle (also under Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board responsibility).
  • Regular monitoring of cleanliness by the Panchayat Development Officer.
They also stated that a Detailed Project Report for a comprehensive, permanent drainage system would be prepared by Public Works Department engineers within one to two months. We publicly appreciated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, and the involved departments for stepping up coordination. However, yesterday's on-site check revealed no visible progress so far. The road continues to pose serious dangers, particularly for the more than 20 school buses that use this route daily, putting children, parents, and commuters at risk of accidents in these craters.Compounding the misery is the ongoing Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board pipeline work, which has caused a 15-day road blockage starting from Doddamara Junction on Hosa Road up to the 4th Cross Junction (notified around August 26, 2023). School buses and other vehicles have been advised to take alternative routes, adding yet another layer of disruption to a road that has seen almost no meaningful development in over eight years—aside from temporary patches by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board that quickly fail. This pattern exemplifies classic Bengaluru civic neglect: high taxes are collected from residents and vehicle owners, inspections are conducted and promises are made, yet jurisdictional overlaps (between Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike limits and gram panchayats) and repeated delays allow the situation to persist. Monsoon flooding, health hazards from stagnant water, and daily commuting hardships affect families in this southern fringe area, all while "Brand Bengaluru" is promoted elsewhere. This is the core reason we continue advocating for the #NoDevelopmentNoTax principle. Citizens should not have to plead for basic infrastructure like motorable roads and functional drains—we pay taxes precisely for these services. When commitments are not honored promptly, taxpayers have every right to seek greater accountability. We once again urge:
  • Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
  • Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar
  • Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister of Karnataka
  • Chairman of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board
  • Local MLA Munirathna (and other relevant representatives)
  • Relevant Public Works Department, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, and gram panchayat officials
to deliver on the August 25, 2023, promises without further delay. Complete the road relaying, pothole repairs, and initiate the drainage Detailed Project Report immediately. Make Doddamara Road safe and usable for families, schoolchildren, and daily commuters. If your neighborhood faces similar infrastructure failures, please share your experiences, photos, or stories in the comments or reach out directly. Collective, persistent pressure remains our most effective tool for change.Bengaluru deserves infrastructure that matches its reputation as an IT hub—not endless excuses and partial fixes.
